Like materials the labels need to be stuck down with something...and yes there is a science to the adhesives too. Depending on application and environment there are a number of difference adhesives or glue that would suit your requirements better.
Choosing the correct adhesive
Whichever material you chose for your label printing, you should take some time to consider the environment that the stickers will be exposed to and how this will affect their staying power. Some materials come with a choice of permanent or removable adhesive whereas others only have the permanent option available so your choice of adhesive may dictate the material that you choose to a certain extent. Plain paper is available with either type of adhesive but with vinyl, the white type has a choice but the clear version has only the permanent adhesive. For the strongest backing the polyethylene stickers have a marine grade adhesive which means they will stay put in virtually all conditions. If you are at all unsure as to which is the best solution for your needs then please do call us for advice.
Popular Label Adhesives -
* Now you have a brief overview of materials and adhesive these few tips may help
1: Paper based materials are generally cheaper to buy and will suit many requirements
for advertising and address labels.
2: Paper labels can be finished with a matt or
gloss finish for a nicer visual finish with an array of different base colours
3:
Vinyl is a tough material suitable for external use, usually guaranteed for between
5-
4: For an extra tough, water and grease resistance you can also use an
over laminate to protect the printed label.
5: Tamper evident labels when attempted
to be removed leave wording such as "void" or a "chain link" effect, when using these
labels, apply to product and leave to cure for 24 hours for maximum adhesion.
6: Destructible
labels are not to be confused with Tamper evident labels, although these are generally
also used as a theft deterrent. It is impossible to remove these labels once cured
(allow 24hrs after application) in one piece.
7: Use of a permanent adhesive ensures
the label stays in place for the desired duration of time.
8: The use of a "peel able"
adhesive is ideal for temporary or short term labelling as these can be removed more
easily.
9: The use of a hair dryer or other heat source aids in the removal of tough
vinyl labelling.
10: Although there are products that aid removal of label adhesive,
the use of simple "washing up" liquid also does a similar job.
